Photoshoot Worthy Homes

People often tell me that they don't want to do an in-home shoot because they've looked at my portfolio and their homes just aren't up to par. Their bookshelves aren't color coordinated. They don't have crown molding and details from the 1920s. They don't have bay windows. They just have a regular, simple home. Maybe they haven’t decorated the way they wanted, or there are toys spilling out of drawers because they live in a small apartment in San Francisco. Whatever the reason, they just believe they don’t have photoshoot worthy homes.

I'm here to tell you that having a regular, lived-in home that may not be gracing the cover of an architectural digest anytime soon, absolutely does not mean your pictures will be any less beautiful, or that your home is any less worthy to photograph. You live in your home. It's where you create memories and brought your babies home. It's where you teach them important life lessons and show them how to be the people you want them to be. Your home is important.

The mom from this family was one of the families that worried about this very thing. She has incredible style, an adorable family, and a sweet little house. However, she told me that what she was worried about is that it is pretty new, cookie cutter, and doesn't have much built in character. I told her to focus on her family. I asked her to find activities she loves. I told her not to worry about getting 'better' decor or changing anything. Just focus on how much you love your family. We spent the day taking some classic portraits, baking brownies, cuddling on the bed and playing on the trampoline. Besides the photographer in their house, it looked like every other day. That's what makes it so meaningful. She will show these pictures to her kids years from now and they will see just how much love existed every single day in their lives and in their home.Your home isn't special because of what it looks like. Your home is special because you are in it.

If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area and want a photoshoot in your home, I’m your gal. I am a SF and Marin photographer and my goal is to make joyful magic in every shoot I do, no matter what your house looks like, because every home is a photoshoot worthy home.
